Car Designers, Architects Put Themselves in Seniors' Shoes With age comes wisdom—but also, arthritis and a host of other well-known maladies and limitations. Given the graying population in Europe and around the world, several years ago Ford Motor Company created the "Third Age Suit," a specially designed garment to help engineers get a visceral glimpse into the golden years. The suit helped Ford design cars that provided comfort and ease of usage for the young and old alike, including features like rear-view cameras, improved headroom and a better "H-point" (the point at which the hips swivel) to facilitate access to the interior.

Predicting Alzheimer's Disease

The July 2011 issue of Caring Right at Home examined the importance of early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease. Traditionally, Alzheimer’s was identified by clinical evaluation and cognition tests. A sure diagnosis was not available during a patient’s lifetime. Today, brain imaging and blood tests allow for an earlier and more definitive diagnosis. And now, new tests may even predict who will develop the disease in the future.
