Selection

To ensure that the people we employ meet Right at Home Charleston's high standards for personal care, we have a rigorous selection process. Before caregivers can become employed with Right at Home Charleston and begin caring for clients, every one of them must go through:

- Reference checks
- Background clearance

Training and Continuing Education

Once a caregiver meets our strict selection criteria, it's just the beginning. First, all Right at Home caregivers are insured and bonded. Then, each caregiver goes through a comprehensive orientation process that ingrains our policies and procedures.

Our CERT (Caregiver Education Retention and Training) program provides ongoing, specialized training that ensures that our caregivers understand the high standards of care expected by Right at Home.

Through Right at Home University – the educational arm of our CERT Program – caregivers are given training on issues that help them develop as better overall caregivers, as well as deal with very specific situations, including:

“Words cannot express the feelings I have as I write this. I want to personally thank my mom’s caregiver for the wonderful job she did the short time she was here. She showed a great caring attitude and such compassion. She was a gift to my mom. They seemed to bond almost immediately. Thank you so much.”

“Dear Mr. Hicks,

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you and the staff at Right at Home for the wonderful care you provided for my mother. As you know, my mother passed away after a fairly long illness, and the caregivers who took care of her were exceptional not only their care of her, but also in helping and supporting me.

I can’t tell you enough how pleased I was with the services of your caregivers. I have often told people that I had the best four ladies employed by Right at Home, and I truly meant that. I’m sure you understand the fears many people have when leaving their elderly parents with strangers, but with your caregivers, I quickly realized how compassionate, caring, and dedicated each one of them were, and I felt they took care of my mother as if she was their own.

Additionally, they were a tremendous help to me. I never had to worry about household chores at my mother’s house. The bathrooms were always cleaned, carpet vacuumed, furniture dusted, dishes washed, laundry washed and put away, and bed sheets changed. It was such a relief to not have to worry about those things after working all day.

I want to comment on the caregiver’s reliability as well. They were always when they were supposed to be. I never had to worry about missing work because one of them couldn’t be there.

I also want to tell you how happy I was with your office staff. They were always very pleasant to speak with on the telephone, and were very efficient in taking care of any concerns or questions I had.

Thanks so much for the wonderful work you do. It was such a blessing that I was able to keep my mother at home where she wanted to be, rather than a nursing home. Because of your company, I was able to fulfill that wish for her.”

“Dear Eric & Staff,

Thanks for getting me help on such short notice for the two nights when our loved one came home from the hospital. Everyone in your agency has been so courteous even when you have been busy and overwhelmed.

We have been pleased with everyone you have sent to help us. We would recommend you to anyone.”

“Dear Eric,

Our family would like to say thank you to your organization for the excellent care your staff gave our loved one through her 6 weeks illness. The staff was always thoughtful, kind, and considerate to our loved one’s needs and it didn’t take long before we considered them more like family then caregivers. We don’t know whether we were just lucky, but we couldn’t have gotten a better group of staff. Thank you again for making the situation so much easier than we thought it could be.”

“Eric & Staff at Right at Home,

What a blessing you have all been to me and my family. I’m thankful that you were recommended to us by Hospice. You have a very special and important service to people and it gave me more peace of mind to know my mom was getting such good care. I will recommend you to others.

Thank you Eric for coming to my mom’s house on your own and helping ease the transition for her. She has always been so independent and strong. It was difficult for her to give that up. Thank you for your patience. God bless you all.”
