Alzheimer's Burden Climbs

Private Struggles of Caregivers
The only child in a close and loving family, Mary Lenart remembers spirited shopping excursions with her mother, endless and effortless conversations and unstinting support.
“Our family always had the gift of communication. Problems were always talked out,” Lenart recalled.
Today, her mother Genevieve Lenart, 81, sits silently, unable to take part in any conversation, robbed of language skills, a nine- year victim of Alzheimer’s disease.
Study-Caregiver Profiles @ End of Life of Dementia Patients
The purpose of this study was to investigate how caregivers respond to the end stages of dementia with the assistance from hospice.
Four distinct caregiver portraits emerged:
(a) disengaged – conflicted relationship with patient
(b) questioning – struggled to understand the dementia
(c) all-consumed- concerned themselves with every detail of care
(d) reconciled – relieved, ready and prepared for death

Speedy Care for Heart Attacks in Local Hospitals
