May is "Older Americans Month"

May is “Older Americans Month,” an opportunity to bring attention to the issues that affect older adults and create community-wide opportunities to help older Americans improve their quality of life. The theme for “Older Americans Month 2009” is ‘Living Today for a Better Tomorrow,’ proclaimed by the Administration on Aging. By 2030, one in every five Americans will be age 65 or older. This aging population has evolving needs and making behavioral changes in their lifestyles can reduce the risk of disease, disability, and injury. While all age groups are vulnerable, 80 percent of fall-related deaths occur among people 65 and older, according to the National Safety Council.*
