Who We Are: The Local Office

"Sophia wonders why faces she once knew, she no longer recognizes...why she can't remember words once so familiar." These were the words of Patty, a caregiver for Sophia Brown Scott (1919-2003), mother of Right at Home of Essex County owner Moses Scott. Rarely have so few words had such a great influence on the lives of so many people.

The Essex County office of Right at Home, located in West Orange, New Jersey, is a locally owned and operated franchise office of Right at Home Inc., a senior home care and staffing company providing care since 1995. The Essex franchise, in operation since 2004, has served the community ever since. Our mission is to improve the quality of life for those we serve and we do that by providing high quality in-home caregivers to serve you.

Right at Home of Essex County is committed to only the top quality of service to our patients and clients. The foundation of RAH is the mantra that, before all else comes the patient's health and well-being. Our mission: to improve the quality of life for those we serve.

The owner, Moses Scott, and his wife, Melodie, have lived in West Orange, NJ since 1983; they have four children, ranging in ages from 18 to 26. Personally and professionally, the Scott Family has been involved in the local community.

In addition to coaching softball and soccer for the West Orange recreation department, Moses, along with his family, has actively supported the community. Moses is currently a volunteer for the Essex County Friend Advocate Program and a member of the West Orange Chamber of Commerce. He also sponsors the Mountain Top League Soccer program and has acted as a sponsor for the Police Athletic League community Bowling Night. In addition, Moses, in coordination with his business, has served his Essex County community wherever possible.

Moses spent over 25 years with IBM, AT&T, Lucent and Avaya in sales, marketing and product management. He holds a BS from Howard University in Math and Physics, and an MBA from Harvard Business School. In addition, Moses served 4 years in the Army, achieving the rank of Captain.

His wife, Melodie, holds a PhD in Business Ethics and has a joint faculty appointment in the departments of Philosophy & Religion, Management and Marketing at Kean University in Union, New Jersey. Prior to her college service, she worked for several Fortune 100 companies including Price Waterhouse, Xerox and Bristol Meyers. She holds a BBA in Finance and Accounting from Pace University, and MBA from Harvard Business School, and a PhD in Religion and Society from Drew University.

Both Moses and Melodie have cared for family members and friends over the years. Moses' mother Sophia, was an Alzheimer's victim and the influence for his decision to found Right at Home of Essex County. Toward the end of her life, Sophia and her network of caring family and friends were comforted by the wonderful care provided by an exceptional caregiver, Patty. Patty went beyond the call of duty, penning a poem about Sophia, "Sophia wonders why faces she once knew, she no longer recognizes...why she can't remember words once so familiar." Their lives have been forever changed by their first hand knowledge of the benefits that the client, family and friends can derive from excellent caregivers. To that end, Moses and the family are passionately committed to offering to the Essex County community the kind of exceptional service that Sophia and her family received from Patty.

From the get-go, Right at Home was welcoming, helpful, and immediately responsive to my Father's care. We instantly responded to their friendly and service-oriented approach and felt that we could work with them. They also seem to hold the bar pretty high for the caregivers working with them, and their high standards and extensive selection process reassured and impressed us.
