Frequently Asked Questions

Please find a list below of our most frequently asked questions from people just like you who are looking for in home care.

Are the caregivers bonded & insured?
Yes. Every Right at Home caregiver is an employee of our agency. As such, we perform a criminal history background clearance on each caregiver, and cover each of them with general liability insurance and worker’s compensation insurance.

Will I have a choice of who comes to my home?
Yes. By using our proprietary screening and selection systems, we take the guesswork out of the process and handle all the legwork of matching the right caregiver(s) with each client. However, we will never send a caregiver whom you are not satisfied with and we will accommodate any request for a change that you may have.

Furthermore, we encourage every client and authorized representative of the client to be as involved as possible in this decision-making process. If a change needs to be made, we’ll handle all the coordination and make the necessary phone calls.

Will the same caregiver come each day/shift?
Our goal is to establish a long-term match between client and caregiver, and to keep the same caregiver with a client as long as the client is satisfied. This is based upon our experience that developing a strong rapport and trust with your caregiver is a vital component to a successful home care experience. In short, we want to avoid the “revolving door” of caregivers.

Of course, you have the choice of which days and hours you receive care. So, if you choose to receive many hours of service in a given day, or service during different times of the day throughout the week, it may be necessary to schedule more than one caregiver in a given week. Regardless, we want to have the same caregiver(s) coming each week, as long as you are happy with them. All such decisions will be made with the consent of the client.

Are home care services covered by insurance or Medicare?
Many long-term care insurance, worker’s compensation, and automobile insurance policies will reimburse for these kinds of services. Additionally, funds from Reverse Mortgages, Health Savings Accounts and Flexible Spending Accounts are often used to pay for home care.

Right at Home has preferred relationships with many such companies. We will help you and your family through every step of the often confusing process involved with determining what a policy will actually cover, and we will provide the documentation your insurance company requests.

Medicare does not pay for this type of hourly companion and personal care service. Click here to see an official Medicare Eligibility Tool.

If I change my mind, do I have to keep the service?
No. You will never be locked into a long-term contract, and Right at Home will never require you to continue with services if you choose not to continue.

How long have you been in business?
Right at Home has been providing our home care services for over a decade - since 1995.

Do I pay the caregiver directly?
No. You, or an authorized representative, will be invoiced after the completion of services- usually on a weekly basis. Because all Right at Home caregivers are employees of the company, you will not have to pay them directly, nor will you be asked to pay an additional fee to the employees.

How can I verify a shift was completed for a family member?
Right at Home offices use a combination of web-based time and attendance solutions and written timecards. So, not only can documentation of service completion be kept confidentially in your home, but written verification can be provided any time it is requested.

Itemized invoices are always sent after the completion of services, so any requested adjustments to schedules are taken care of before the invoice is sent.

How is the privacy of my personal information maintained?
As a professional organization in the healthcare industry, your information will never be sold to any 3rd party or affiliate under any circumstances. In fact, only the office personnel and caregivers who are directly involved in your services will have access to information related to your care.

We adhere to all applicable federal and state guidelines related to privacy of personal and healthcare information. This starts from day one with the formal services agreement we execute prior to the delivery of homecare services. The written service agreement stipulates the exact restrictions on the use of your information, which clarifies that even unauthorized family members will not be given access to information without the client’s or legally authorized representative’s formal consent.

What is the cost for these services?
Right at Home will customize a plan of care that is unique to every client, and suitable to your budget. There are a couple of factors that help determine the exact cost- number of hours of care you receive, the level of home care services that are most suitable for you (non-medical companion, hands-on personal care, etc.), and the region of the country within which you live.

Our services are typically billed on an hourly basis, which is what makes it so easy to customize a plan of care. Also, you often have the choice of multiple levels of care from Right at Home, which assures that you are never billed an inflated rate for the services of an over-qualified caregiver.

To discuss the exact rates for the services you desire, contact your local Right at Home representative. Your representative will provide you with a complementary in-home consultation, and discuss the rate structure and available options in detail. A written rate sheet is provided prior to the initiation of services, and rates will never be increased without at least a 30 day notice.

Do I need a physician’s authorization/prescription?
No, there is no pre-authorization required. Nor is there any certification, pre-qualification, or doctor’s prescription required. You start the services when you want, and you decide how much or how little home care service you would like.

If a client requests our assistance with billing a private insurance policy (such as long-term care insurance) for our services, we are happy to help with the entire “benefits coordination” process, including the provision of appropriate documentation so you may be reimbursed by the insurance carrier.

What’s the next step?
To start with our in-home care services, we arrange a time to visit with the family, responsible party, and/or client to fully discuss the care situation.

At that time, we decide, with you or the family, the most appropriate care services that are needed, and match you with the right caregiver. To assure that every client receives the specific services they want, we also complete a customized plan of care for each client. We answer the important questions that the client and/or family members have regarding our services and costs. Usually care can begin within a few days. What if I need changes to my services?
We are very flexible with our service and understand the care situation can quickly change. We can adjust schedules with short notice, and we do not have any "contract period" to which you are committed. At the client and family’s discretion, care can typically be established within a few days.

What services are provided?
Right at Home is a national network of providers of in-home care and assistance for the elderly and disabled in their homes. We help you or your loved ones by arranging for trained, bonded and insured caregivers in the home for as little as a few hours or as much as 24 hours a day. Right at Home caregivers help with the everyday tasks that provide individuals a way to remain independent in their own homes.
We take care of a range of needed services including:

  • preparing nutritious meals
  • medication reminders
  • light exercise
  • shopping and errands
  • transportation to doctor appointments, and other events
  • maintaining household cleanliness
  • companionship and support

Can Right at Home help with medications?
Yes. One of the most commonly requested services is medication reminders. Reminding clients to take their medications, reporting side effects, and assisting with pre-measured medication packages are all ways in which we can help. Although our caregivers cannot administer medications, they can assist the individual who shares in the responsibility of taking their own medication.

Who can best be helped by Right at Home?
Right at Home is the perfect solution for seniors and others who aren't ready to leave their home for an institutional setting, but because of illness or chronic conditions need support to remain at home.

Right at Home clients can include those with diminished eyesight or hearing, arthritis, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, those recovering from severe medical problems such as cancer or heart disease, or those who are dealing with memory loss or Alzheimer's disease. Many clients have a number of conditions which together, make the everyday activities of life difficult.

With some help, they can be relieved of using their energy for simple activities that for them are exhausting ones. They can then begin to use that energy for whatever is for them the important things in life: connecting with friends or family, taking a short walk, or perhaps reading a good book.

In situations where we provide a respite for a primary family caregiver (e.g. a wife caring for a husband or a daughter caring for her mother), we find that with our help often the relationship can strengthen when one removes the considerable stress the role of constant caregiver can bring. We find that most often care for a client is a family situation, not just an individual client needing care. We always are mindful of this when advising families on care.
