Home-based care
While many seniors choose to relocate to retirement communities, others prefer to remain at home as long as possible. But what happens when the activities of daily living are no longer feasible?
This is where companies such as Right at Home of Wake County step in. The in-home care and assistance company provides companion and personal care services for clients.
"In today's world, many want to age in place as the population gets older and people want to remain in their homes longer," says Tom Arnold, who co-owns the franchise operation with Burton Hill.
"Our goal is to assist them with these activities and improve quality of life."
The company employs between 60 and 70 certified caregivers, who are carefully matched with clients based on their needs and interests. Services include everything from eating, bathing and dressing to transportation, errands, and respite care.
"We help clients remain at home with a certain level of quality of life and take care of these needed services," Burton says.
"We've shown that a person can be pretty active as long as they have some assistance."
