Jennie Powell PhD Achieves Recognition as Certified Geriatric Pharmacist
July 20, 2010
(Alexandria, Virginia – July 20, 2010) The Commission for Certification in Geriatric Pharmacy is pleased to announce that Jeannine H. Powell, Owner/Manager of Right At Home of Morgantown and President of Clarion Pharmacy Consulting, has successfully completed the requirements for recertification as Certified Geriatric Pharmacist (CGP).
CCGP offers a psychometrically valid certification examination in geriatric pharmacy practice. Pharmacists who meet the requirements to become board certified in geriatric pharmacy practice are entitled to use the designation CGP (Certified Geriatric Pharmacist). CCGP has over 1,500 Certified Geriatric Pharmacists, representing eight countries, 49 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Recertification is required every five years, and may be achieved by testing or by completing a rigorous course of study in geriatric pharmacotherapy.
“With the aging of the baby boomers in the United States, the need for pharmacists who are competent in managing medication therapy for older adults is growing rapidly,” stated Thomas R. Clark, RPh, MHS, CGP, executive director of CCGP. “We congratulate [NAME] on achieving this important recognition.”
The Commission for Certification in Geriatric Pharmacy (CCGP) was created by the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP) Board of Directors on February 27, 1997. CCGP is a nonprofit corporation, autonomous from ASCP, with its own governing Board of Commissioners.
