RAH Announces Heather Stackewicz as Caregiver of the Month

For the first time in Right at Home (RAH) of Sacramento/Yolo’s history, RAH announced their first two time winner of the Caregiver of the Month award.

Having won the award last year (2010), Heather Stackewicz was surprised to win it again.

“Yes, I was surprised,” smiled Heather, “It is truly an honor and it is nice to be recognized again as Caregiver of the Month for March.”

Ms. Stackewicz, who has been part of the Right at Home care team for nearly three years, has enjoyed her time spent with Right at Home.

“I used to work at facilities (assisted living and skilled nursing) before Right at Home,” she reasoned, “I got certified as a C N A (certified nursing assistant) over nine years ago, and began my caregiving career back then.” She continued: “I enjoy doing home health – and providing care in the home in a one-on-one setting, since you can focus much more on the client and the quality of care versus feeling rushed. Being in the home is a totally different level of care for the client and the caregiver. I prefer it much, much more.”

Her favorite memory over the past year was working with a supportive hospice client, in which she was able to “take him out – since he was recently released from a skilled nursing facility and was unable to just get outside and enjoy the sunshine. Once he got home, his family and I were able to go to the California State Fair together and enjoy ourselves and the time spent together.”

Right at Home company President Dan Parker was pleased to make the Caregiver of the Month announcement.“Heather Stackewicz has been an outstanding, self motivated caregiver within our system for some time now. We very much enjoy acknowledging her achievements – both in her completion of Right at Home University, and as caregiver of the month twice now.” Parker added, “You know, she is the first time double winner – which is quite a feat.”

Stackewicz’s commitment to caring was evident in her being the first graduate of the Right at Home University program.

Right at Home University (RAHU) is an on-going educational program that is focused on improving the quality of care by encouraging Right at Home caregivers to complete a 33 course educational program which is written by 28 content providers, including RN’s, home care specialists, senior care advisors, and case managers with experience in hospital and staff development.

“Her commitment to providing quality care is obvious,” declared Director of Sales and Marketing Steven Lowrey, “Heather’s achievements with Right at Home are a direct result of her passion for learning and striving to be the best at what she does.”

Most recently, she has begun taking courses at a beauty college to possibly pursue a career as a hair stylist – or even styling her senior client’s hair in the comfort of their own homes. “I prefer having fun – learning new things – grasping new challenges and ideas,” she said, “I hope to offer hair styling to future clients to make it easier for them, instead of them having to go into a salon for their beauty needs.”

Her advice for others? “Don’t get too bored in your life or profession…broaden your horizons and believe in a positive work/life balance.”
