Right at Home Names Sierra Baker Caregiver of the Year 2011
(Sacramento, CA) - For Sierra Baker, it starts with “pouring her heart” into each assignment and client that she worked with over the past year as a valuable member of the Right at Home care team.
“I poured everything I have into my role as a caregiver,” smiled Sierra, “I always conduct myself professionally and take pride in working with Right at Home. From my heart I give each client my everything.”
For the hard working and dedicated Sierra, she was entirely shocked and delighted to be recently announced as the Right at Home Sacramento/Yolo’s Caregiver of the Year for 2011.
“I was thrilled to win!” exclaimed Sierra, “it was absolutely everything I wanted. The fact that Right at Home noticed me – and having my work recognized – was truly important for me. I have always given my best - from each and every time I got a call for a new case I tried my hardest and made myself available for the clients of Right at Home.”
The outgoing and optimistic Sierra additionally believed that she “deserved to win” because she “was genuinely herself” and she has “a gigantic heart that shines through.”
And of her caregiving skills? “I am very, very good at it!” she confidently exclaimed with joy.
Sierra has had many memorable clients over the past year, but the client that most touched her heart was a supportive hospice situation.
“It was a female hospice client,” explained Sierra, “I was honored to have helped her through her passing, and just being there for her family.” Sierra added, “I discovered in conversation with her that she very much enjoyed tabernacle choir music – and I found additional choir music for her and happened to be playing that music while she passed away. It meant a great deal to the family, and it truly comforted them as well.”
In other cases and clients that Sierra has touched, Sierra consistently demonstrated a high degree of providing quality care. “It is important to keep a balance,” remarked Sierra, “And remind yourself that even the most difficult client is easy.”
To be named Caregiver of the Year, Sierra follows a tradition of caregivers who have performed exceptionally well – including previous Caregivers of the Year, Bess Jett Key and Deborah Turner.
“Sierra Baker clearly demonstrates an ability and commitment to caregiving, and has been a key member of the Right at Home care team,” stated Dan Parker, President of Right at Home, “We are proud to name her our Caregiver of the Year.”
Sierra sites her “knack of knowing what her clients want or need”, as a key ingredient for her success. “I have intuition,” she replied, “I pour my heart and soul into each client I care for and each person I work with. Even on shifts in assisted living facilities – or in any environment I work in. I truly pour everything into it.”
Sierra’s dedication to her caregiving is unrivaled, as she stated: “I take my career as a caregiver seriously. I always conduct myself professionally, and take pride in Right at Home.”
According to Steven Lowrey, Sales and Marketing Director for Right at Home, it is Sierra’s passion. “Sierra Baker brings a passion and energy to her work each and every day,” said Lowrey, “It is truly evident from the feedback we receive from our clients that Sierra enriches the life of each and every person that she comes into contact with.”
“Everywhere I go – I have that extra ‘special something’ that a caregiver should have,” explained Sierra, “I have a special gift for caring – as God gave it to me – and I do it well.”
After work, Sierra cites her time away as helping relieve any job related stress that may come with being a committed caregiver.
“When a case may be difficult and when done with work – I play a video game like (WII) duck hunting or bowling,” laughed Sierra, “It is a new found love.” She also enjoys relieving her stress by “having fun and playing” with her two children Aliana (9), and Bradley (2).
Both children were also excited that her Mother was named Caregiver of the Year. “Both of them were very proud of me,” Sierra beamed, “They know that Mom loves people so much.”
After being named Caregiver of the Year, Sierra’s hopes for the future now include becoming a “leader” on the Right at Home care team, as well as perhaps furthering her education. “I would love to be a care supervisor someday,” Sierra replied.
Her advice for other caregivers of the Right at Home care team who are interested in becoming perhaps a future “Caregiver of the Year”?
“Providing care for our Right at Home clients takes time, patience, and experience that you only get by providing that personal care,” she added, “Sacrificing yourself and putting their needs above your own is the key to becoming an exceptional caregiver.”
“Always be true to yourself,” she explained, “I was genuinely myself and I have a gigantic heart – and it seems to shine through – sometimes even by accident!”
The smiling and confident Sierra added, “Love your work, and treat your client and the Right at Home team like family, and you will becoming an amazing caregiver – just like me!”
