12 Minutes That Will Change Your Life

Enlightening. Amazing. Life-changing.

These are just some of the descriptive words used by participants of  Right at Home of Southern NH's Virtual Dementia Tour®.  Created by Second Wind Dreams®, and featured on ABC News and in USA Today, participants have the unique opportunity of experiencing the world through the eyes and ears of those with Dementia.

The Virtual Dementia Tour® is a scientifically proven method designed to build sensitivity and awareness in individuals and professionals caring for those with Dementia.  Created for anyone seeking to understand the physical and mental challenges that accompany Dementia,  The Virtual Dementia Tour® not only benefits residential staff and homecare workers, it is a valuable experience for family caregivers, spouses and loved ones.  This unique, interactive program has been proven to improve communication and care.

Right at Home of Southern NH routinely offers this tour to all of our caregivers and at caregiver orientation.  The overwhelming majority of our caregivers who participated in the tour reported that the insight gained will help them better understand the obstacles faced by their clients.  Right at Home is also in the community, providing this service to local facilities and elderly communities in an effort to promote compassion, empathy and understanding in people who work closely with those with Dementia.

The original Dementia Tour was designed to educate healthcare workers by simulating what is known about the effects of Dementia on a person.  This sensitivity study looked at both the cognitive and physical changes that occur in aging.  Additionally, the research identified and measured the participants' responses to their experiences.  The full study can be obtained in the American Journal of Alzheimer's Disease May/June 2001.

My family and I were quite pleased with Right at Home's efforts. They provided first class service, and provided a healthcare provider who really knew what she was doing. It is not necessarily easy to transport a person who is not feeling well across the entire United States, and Right at Home did a great job in providing this service. Our experience with Right at Home was just perfect.
