How to Talk About In Home care

June 17, 2011

If you were having a tough time doing things that used to be easy, experiencing memory problems or going through physical decline, it would be difficult to accept.  It is the same for your mom or dad.

The question is... how do you get your parents to accept help?  How do you get them to be open to in home care and assistance?

* Have a friend of your parent' mention how in home care could make life easier for them.  This way it doesn't initially come from you.

* Talk about the positive - Don't talk about what your parent can't do anymore.  Focus on what he or she CAN do.  Talk about how a little help around the house could make life more enjoyable.  A little help might allow mom or dad to have more fun.  A little help might make it possible for mom and dad to stay in their own home - something most people want to do for as long as possible.

* Your parent might still see you as "the kid", so a little help from a church leader or family friend might make this process a little easier for all of you.

It is important that your mom and dad know you are on their side.  You are worried about you parents, but you might have to go slow.  We can help you with this process.  Give us a call today.  Right at Home - In Home Care and Assistance located in Overland Park, Kansas.
