Many Family Caregivers Feel Sense of Guilt
June 22, 2011
If you are the caregiver for a loved one, you might deal with feelings of guilt when you need a break. It is okay to have this feeling, but you need to put things in perspective and take some personal time. You need to rise above your "guilt". It is unhealthy and you can't do it all by yourself. Guilt will only tear you up inside, and make your caregiving even more difficult. You are doing the best you can, and that is good enough.
Try journaling your feelings. Write about the care you provide. You will probably see there is no reason for you to feel guilty. More than likely, this will show you just how much you do for your loved one. Even if other family members try to make you feel guilty, don't listen to them. Who is the one that stepped up to the plate to be the primary caregiver? YOU!!
Make sure you get a break and let go of the guilt. Right at Home is here to help. Our mission is to improve the quality of life for those we serve, and lower family stress. Give us a call today to learn more about our best in class care.
