Eldercare Planning
We co-hosted two free workshops with Littman Krooks LLP on "Protecting the Family Home" on June 9 and 13, offering information on multi-generational estate planning and discuss the legal tools neccesary to preserve assets - including the home - while planning for the possiblity that a family member will need long-term care.
Many phone calls we receive at Right at Home come from people in times of crisis. Wives call our office when their husbands have strokes or fall ill. Adult children call us when something has happened to mom or dad. Having Health Care Proxy and/or Power of Attorney polices established make things easier when the need to set up care services arises. These policies help ensure that the right decisions are being made, the client’s wishes are being carried out, and that people get the care they need. Having a trust set up can also help to protect assets and finances in case of prolonged nursing or rehab stays.
Attorneys Amy O'Hara and Elizabeth Valentin gave a presentation that explained advance directives, living trusts, long-term care and Medicaid planning in depth.
One of the other instruments that helps in eldercare planning is long-term care insurance. Most long-term care insurance policies pay for most or even all of your home care expenses. Unfortunately, not many people are aware of benefits long-term care insurance offers today.
