Non-Senior Care

Before Mandy was born, Joe and Lois knew they had a special child with special needs. Mandy was diagnosed with Down Syndrome while Lois was still pregnant. But Mandy's condition has never affected her determined spirit and keen sense of independence. As she entered her twenties, it was this independence that allowed Joe and Lois to help their daughter to move into her own apartment a few blocks away. Mandy's parents knew that she needed a little more supervision and assistance than a typical young adult. They also knew that Mandy would become defiant if she felt her parents were checking on her too often. That's why Joe and Lois introduced Mandy to Erica.

Erica is a Right at Home caregiver that stops by Mandy's apartment to make sure that she doesn't need anything and that things are going well. Mandy loves Erica's visits. The two of them visit for a couple of hours every few days while Erica helps Mandy with things around the house or takes her shopping. The whole experience has strengthened the relationship between Mandy and her parents, as well.

Right at Home provides numerous companionship and homemaking services to Mandy, including:

  • Safety supervision
  • Companionship
  • Helping with hobbies and crafts
  • Reading aloud from books, newspapers and magazines
  • Transportation
  • Bringing in newspaper/mail
  • Playing cards/games
  • Grocery shopping
  • Light housekeeping

Dear Right at Home of West Covina:

I want to commend you and your wonderful staff for the care of my husband, Frank.  When I was driving home from work one evening, our apartment manager called to say he found Frank found lying in the parking lot and was concerned.  He was taken back to the apartment and the neighbors kept an eye on him until I got home.  Upon arriving home, I found FranK in the parking lot pacing up and down the sidewalk looking for me.   The look in his eyes was so scary that I immediately called 911 and had him taken to the hospital.  He had suffered a TMI, a mini stroke.    A couple of days later he was released and sent home.  I can’t tell you how scared I was.  I was faced with making the decision of needing help and I’ll never forget that day.  I called several agencies, all of whom I had gathered information and then our apt. manager gave me some flyers with numbers to call.  I remembered, Right at Home from an email I had received a few weeks before.  I called and spoke with you and we agreed to meet shortly after.  After all the calls I made that day, you were the only one I met with.  Why?  There was something in your voice that told me you cared and you were there for me.

I can’t tell you how hard it was to admit that I needed help and right away.  My husband has late stage Alzheimer’s, disease and up until now, I was convinced I could take care of him myself.  After meeting with you ,we agreed you would call me later in the day with a caregiver which I would meet the next day.

Our lives have changed since our first meeting.  You have sent us the most loving, caring and patient lady I could ever ask for.  Glena has become part of our family.  She spends time with me each evening when I get home and tells me how the day has gone.   I never expected that we would ever get someone as caring and loving as Glena.  My husband gives her a hug each evening and says, “I’ll see you tomorrow.”  After she leaves, he always tells me how much he likes Glena and how sweet she is.

Due to the fact I leave at 6:00 a.m. and return home about 6:00 p.m. I desperately need to know I have someone reliable and punctual.  Glena meets the criteria.  She has even offered to be available for me on weekends.  While taking care of someone with Alzheimer’s Disease is difficult, frustrating and very hard work, Glena never complains.  Her intelligence and patience is remarkable.  She handles Frank with a lot of love and patience and both Frank and I truly appreciate her.

Your professional and respectful manner is so appreciated.  It is comforting to know you are always there for us and I honestly believe you really care for all your clients.  I can’t tell you how thankful I am I called and met with you.

Because we have two homes, I am looking for a caregiver at our second home.  You and your staff have spoiled us so much that I am having a difficult time finding another Glena for weekends.

Please don’t hesitate to use this letter as a reference or testimonial, or have someone all me with questions or concerns about you or your agency.  Thank you so much for being there for me.  It is a pleasure to go to work daily and know my husband is in good hands.  What a relief!
