COMPANION/COMMUNITY GUIDE For Special Needs Adults(King County) Part-Time Position (up to 40 hrs/week)

Right at Home, a leading in-home care services provider, is currently hiring full time and part-time COMPANIONS and CAREGIVERS to work with intellectually disabled adults as a Community Guide.

What is a Community Guide? – A community guide works with intellectually disabled adults to explore various social and personal interaction experiences in their community.

What is the goal of a Community Guide? The Community Guide will help developmentally disabled clients reach personal heights, become more connected with their community, and build self-reliance.

What will I have to do? As a Community Guide you will work with the client and their support team to identify activities that will help bring them joy and self-fulfillment. Activities and goals are personalized and based on capabilities of the individual. Activities vary from:

  • Arranging for a regular outing to the mall, or to the movies
  • Visit to the library to check out books or do research
  • Visit the Farmers markets (on sunny/warm days), or to the park to enjoy a Little League baseball game or to enjoy nature

Job Duties:

The Companion - Community Guide will work with all interested parties to deliver on care plan and goals set by Lead Specialist, the client and their families.

Hours: Case load and hours are flexible and based on Companion’s availability although Right at Home is looking for a commitment of 16 hours per week. We ask our Companions to commit to an on-going schedule that allow them develop rapport and deliver on Right at Home’s commitment to continuity of care.

Pay Rate: $14 - $15.45/hour + Benefits


  • Must have skills and abilities to research and connect our clients with people or organizations in their local community
  • Must have interest in working with the developmentally disabled in their community
  • Must pass background check and complete orientation
  • Must have valid driver’s license
  • May not be an employee of DDA or ALTSA or a parent of the waiver participant
  • Home Care Aide or Certified Nursing License – required only for clients who are non-ambulatory
