Right at Home of Eastern Worcester County is owned and operated by Gail J. Hanson, President/CEO and Shelby Marshall, Senior Vice President. They have built their reputation on the simple premise that everyone should be treated with dignity and respect. They are passionate about their personal approach to every client relationship believe that every senior should have the option to age in the place of their own choice.
About Gail Hanson
A Certified Senior Advisor with a passion for service and caregiving, Gail has long served as caregiver for her disabled uncle, who was born prematurely and has a myriad of health issues. She has spent much of her life advocating for and protecting him. Gail also has cared for her parents and grandparents. She is passionate in her role as caregiver; as an advocate for other caregivers, she helps them identify high-quality tools and services to help them excel in their caregiving roles. She approaches every client situation with a “can do” attitude and instills the same in the entire Right at Home team.
Prior to opening Right at Home, Gail served as Director of Information Technology and Computer Operations at various global manufacturing companies, where she oversaw all voice/data network activity, business systems and end-user support.
A result of personal and professional experience, Gail has an unwavering belief that seniors should have a choice in the type of care they receive, where they receive it and who provides it to them. She is motivated by helping families navigate difficult decisions and developing solutions for their loved ones. She is an active advocate for seniors’ safety and well-being and prides herself in providing peace of mind and respite for their families.
About Shelby Marshall
Prior to joining Right at Home, Shelby spent 15 years in national health care sales and served in account management leadership positions within the health plan managed markets/managed care sectors. She was accountable for growth and retention of a diverse portfolio of hundreds of commercial health plan accounts, producing $2.5 billion in annual revenue. She successfully led her team to achieve 100% renewal and retention year over year and consistently delivered year over year net new sales growth of 14 percent.
As a caregiver to her own grandmother, who suffered from diabetes, congestive heart failure and arthritis, Shelby provided social visits, housekeeping and personal care. She experienced firsthand the complexity of family caregiving and the time and energy it requires.
Providing Home Care Services for the Aging Community
Because they have both cared for aging relative with varying degrees of health issues, Gail and Shelby can directly relate to the concerns, frustrations and fears of those who are on the other end of the phone when they call Right at Home for help and support. They are both instrumental in helping family members navigate the complex paperwork and processes that always accompany illness.
Gail and Shelby are very active in their community. Gail’s volunteer work focuses on raising funds for and awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. Shelby is President for the Rotary Club of Westborough; current and past Chair of the Rotary Club’s Spring Festival and member of its Board of Directors. Shelby also serves as Co-Chair of Westborough’s Come2Be Dementia Friendly Initiative and is a Trustee of the Westborough Public Library. Shelby is also a Member of the Corridor Nine Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors; Treasurer of Worcester Area Social Workers (WAGS); an active member of her daughter’s school’s Parent Group; a Charlotte Spinney Scholar Community Mentor; and a Northborough Community Reading Day participant.
Between both of them, Gail and Shelby hold three degrees and a certificate. Gail graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Physical Education from Bridgewater State College and a Master’s in Business Administration from Northeastern University. Shelby holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from Brown University and a Pre-Med Post-Baccalaureate Certificate from University of Vermont.
Gail and Shelby have been married for and lived in Westborough for 20 years, have a school-aged daughter and two dogs. A mother for the first time at the age of 55, Gail enjoys spending time with her family, friends and dogs. An avid gardener and a MacGyver in her own right, Gail relishes in maintaining two homes.
An entrepreneur at heart, Shelby operated her own lawnmowing business in her Maine neighborhood when she was a child. She also played on two World Championship softball teams and pursued a golf career post-college.
