Shalom Plotkin and Elise Braverman-Plotkin

Owners

Shalom Plotkin and Elise Braverman-Plotkin are excited to be managing a local Right at Home office. Shalom and Elise have an extensive background in guiding and nurturing people in need. They came home to Cleveland with a mission to help improve the quality of life and independence of adults and seniors. Their passion is to provide active support to enable people to remain independent anywhere they call home.

The Plotkin's have a personal reason for opening their Right at Home business. Elise's father has been courageously battling Parkinson's Disease for years. Recently Elise's Mother had a significant health challenge and was seeking home care after her discharge from the hospital. They needed somebody reliable and caring to help with respite, light housekeeping and transportation. The Plotkin's decided to move home in order to bring the family together. After some research they discovered that the country's best known home care brand, which is #1 in customer satisfaction, had no local presence. They have seized the opportunity to both fulfill their calling and help others in need.

Elise and Shalom met at the Jewish Theological Seminary where Shalom was studying to become a Rabbi and Elise was completing her Master's Degree in Jewish Studies. They were married in Cleveland in 1998. Shalom received his bachelor's degree with honors from the University of Maryland.

Elise grew up in Cleveland and graduated from Shaker Heights High School and Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana. Her training and experience as an educator and college instructor have made her an excellent listener and compassionate coach for those needing to navigate the bureaucracy of senior services. Elise is recruiting and training Right at Home's homemaker companions and personal care aides. She is always looking to hire additional staff who love working one on one with seniors.

Shalom is making use of his intensive training in counseling and community stewardship. When looking in on their clients and caregivers he listens to ensure that their needs are met. Shalom was trained as a hospital Chaplain at St. Mary Medical Center of Langhorne, PA. Shalom has successfully led many congregations and served as a Chaplain (Lieutenant) in the U.S. Naval Reserves. During his 15 years of military service, Shalom provided pastoral support to Navy and Marine Corps service members and their families. and worked in crisis management. Shalom has touched the lives of thousands of people in need by providing support to the sick, and guidance for those coping with dementia and trauma. Shalom continues to serve as chaplain for Louis Stokes VA Medical Center in Wade Oval.

What personal experience do you have in your own family with caring for a senior or physically challenged adult?

My parents play a huge part in our lives. We have been through a lot as a family which has brought us closer together. My father has battled Parkinson's Disease for 20 years. Our goal is to keep our clients safe, independent, and "Right at Home," for years to come. We recognize the importance of reliable care delivered by people who really have the heart for it. Right at Home can take the stress off other families like ours when they learn that their loved one is being cared for in a dignified and professional manner.

What are some of the community groups that you are involved with?

We enjoy attending knit-night at our local library and we had a lovely time at the Alzheimer Association's Walk-a-Thon at Cleveland's Metropark Zoo. We are quite involved with our synagogue and Shalom has been active with the War Vets and Boy Scouts.

Our Personal Home Care Story

The Right at Home office in the Cleveland area started as a personal journey. In this video, Shalom recounts how they provided care for his father-in-law as he was fighting with Parkinson's Disease. It's through this and their passion for providing care for those that need it that have helped to grow their ability to help more seniors and their families age with their offices in Beachwood and Highland Heights.

Meet the Team

Velisha "LeeLee" Sellers

Client Care Manager

Hello friends, my name is Velisha "Leelee" Sellers and I became the Client Care Coordinator at Right at Home Cleveland East in March 2019. Everyone welcomed me which made the transition into the office easy. I've gained a special understanding for the challenges experienced by seniors with dementia and their caregivers since I've been serving as a State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) since 2008. I worked my way up to being the Client Care Manager here because of the Plotkin's integrity, compassion, culture of respect for differences, and flexibility. I'm passionate about adding a bit of special care to someone else's day.

You might now know from speaking with me on the phone, but I am a huge music lover and enjoy reading novels.

Sommer Brown

Client Care Coordinator

Hello friends, my name is Sommer Brown and I became the Client Care Coordinator at Right at Home Cleveland East in January 2021. I am thrilled to be part of our care coordination team in the office because I love meeting new clients and connecting them with our amazing caregivers. I tell aspiring caregivers that it is an honor to be a part of this team because I know the Plotkin's will always have my back. My passion for caregiving stems from my experience helping my grandparents age in place. I became a professional caregiver in 2009 because I saw how rewarding it is to help seniors make the most out of their golden years. I earned my STNA certificate in 2015. My goal is to continue my education and become an RN.

You might not know this from speaking to me on the phone, but I started and choreographed a girls dance troop. We won 2nd place in our most recent competition.

Nancy Zumwalt

Recruiter

Hello friends, my name Nancy Zumwalt and I became the Recruiter at Right at Home Cleveland East in March 2021. I am elated to join the Plotkin's and bring my professionalism and experience to the office team. I joined Right at Home because I found a can do spirit and a supportive culture. We back each other up. I started as a DODD caregiver in 1999 and I wanted to do more. I enjoy putting my Psychology degree (B.A., Kent State) to work when meeting and interviewing caregivers. Recruiting doesn't end with just the interviews, I onboard new hires and continuously follow them through their first 90 days.

You might not know this from speaking to me on the phone, but I love listening to and going to Broadway musicals. My favorite oscillates between Phantom of the Opera and Rent and I also, I am a twin.
