Story of our Founder, Moses Scott
Moses was born in Prince Edward County, Virginia. He relocated to New Jersey in his teenage years to complete high school education. He was drafted and enrolled in Officer Candidate School after earning his Bachelor of Science Degree in Math and Physics from Howard University. He then spent four-and-a-half years with the military as a computer programmer, and was discharged with the rank of Captain. Moses attended Harvard Business School after the service, then graduated again in 1974 with an M.B.A.
He began his career with IBM in Boston, then moved on to spend the next three decades working at AT&T in New Jersey. His mother continued to reside with his sister’s family in Virginia. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 1993. Moses’ sister was the primary caregiver for their mom, but the family also hired a wonderful caregiver named Patty to help Mrs. Scott during the day.
The senior Mrs. Scott passed away in 2003. Moses’ first-hand experience with in-home care inspired him to give back to the community and start a home care agency in Essex County, New Jersey. “The first case I had was at the memory care center Arden Courts, which is about a mile from my office,” said Moses. “I go up there at least three or four times a week to shake hands and just smile at everybody. It’s the way to get my day started. I enjoy it, and I am pumped for the day after that.”
Maeghan Scott, President
Maeghan Scott graduated from American University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies in 2009. She earned her Master’s in Nurtrition Education two years after that from Montclair State University.
She began her career in PR with an agency that focused on consumer food and beverage brands, and started her own health coaching business in 2012. In 2017, Maeghan decided to continue her father, Moses’, legacy and became the president of Right at Home Essex County.
“I understand why Right at Home is important to my father and I am proud to continue his legacy, providing the same level of care that I would want for my own family,” says Maeghan.
Maeghan brings her knowledge of nutrition to Right at Home Essex County, offering nutrition assessment to clients. Under her leadership, the office works with myriad of local assisted living facilities and local businesses on a regular basis. She is a current member of the West Orange Chamber of Commerce and is involved with the Make a Wish Foundation.
Besides her passion for nutrition, Maeghan is also a fitness lover. Her goal is to incorporate both nutrition and fitness into the home care services for Right at Home’s senior clients.
