Memory Café

A memory café is a welcoming place for people with forgetfulness or other changes in their thinking and for their family and friends. Our Memory Café is done virtually so everyone near or far has the ability to enjoy the program. All cafes share one goal: to help you feel comfortable and to know that you are not alone. Cafes are a place to explore a different topic each month and maybe learn something new as well

Something Fishy

In this Memory Café we celebrate National Fishing Month in July by exploring the cultural, historical, and artistic significance of fish and fishing. Sponsored by Right at Home Boston North and Age Span, the program connects viewers to the relaxing and symbolic world of fishing, while weaving in fascinating stories about fish in art, history, and daily life. Siobhan discusses ancient fish symbolism in various cultures, early Christian uses of the fish symbol, and highlights iconic artists such as Winslow Homer, William Merritt Chase, Paul Klee, and Henri Matisse, who incorporated fish imagery in their work. The program also touches on the evolution of fishing technology, the invention of fish sticks, and intriguing fish facts, including the longevity of goldfish and the whale shark’s size. The video closes by emphasizing how fish imagery connects diverse cultures globally and invites viewers to return for a follow-up program about the art of fruit.
