Dynamic Educational Opportunities to Promote the Success of Our Caregivers

At Right at Home Caregiver training experience begins with orientation, continues with regular in-services, and includes a skills lab and special programs. Education also continues in the client’s home during Supervisor Visits. Nurses are available for just-in-time caregiver education as client care needs change. RAH will also assist Caregivers to maintain their educational requirements for CNA renewal.


All caregivers hired by Right at home participate in an orientation program. Orientation may last up to 3 hours. Content of the general orientation program includes the following topics as applicable and appropriate to the care or services provided:

  • Introduction to the Organization:
  • Caregiver and client Rights and Responsibilities
  • Personnel Policies
  • Client Care Information
  • Advance directives
  • Infection/Exposure Control and Blood borne Pathogens
  • Safety in and Around the Home, Fall Precautions
  • Elder abuse and Neglect
  • Proper body Mechanics and Back Safety
  • Medical Emergencies and Emergency Preparedness

Skills Lab

Additional orientation is offered to caregivers as needed by one of the Right at Home licensed nurses. A skills lab session may last 2-3 hours. The lab is on site at the corporate office for teaching and return demonstration of skills. A skills handbook is also available for all caregivers. There are 26 key skills that are included. The following list is a sample of the skills:

  • Body mechanics
  • Catheter Care
  • Colostomy care
  • First aid
  • Fall prevention
  • Oxygen safety
  • Skin care – preventing pressure ulcers
  • Mechanical lifts
  • Housekeeping
  • Wound Care
  • Back Massage

Continuing Education

Each Care Giver will receive at least six (6) hours of in-service training per calendar year. The topics include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Ethics, Recognizing client abuse and neglect
  • End of life care
  • Home Safety Measures and Emergency Management
  • Performance Improvement and Patient Safety
  • Special topics of interest

Special Programs

  • Certification in Caring for Clients with Cognitive Decline
  • Sponsorship in MORC training for Medication Technician
