Right at Home Partners with the Learn and Earn Program for College Student Interns
Learn & Earn grants are an incredible opportunity for both students and employers throughout the state of West Virginia to have the chance to train ideal future employees. They are reimbursed from the grant funding for 50 percent of the student’s wages. This benefit is intended to be an incentive for employers to take on interns; however, some employers are choosing to see this opportunity from a different perspective.
“We started the Learn and Earn partnership to create a career path for people interested in caring for others. This program allows them to gain additional skills and training to advance their careers", said Right at Home President Eric Hicks.
Mountwest has been partnering with Right at Home home care services. Like many other Learn & Earn partners, Right at Home provides students with a hands-on experience in the healthcare field, by allowing them to provide “companion care” services such as meal prepping, house cleaning, and laundry in the client's home. Right at Home also assist with “personal care” services such as bathing, feeding, dressing and incontinence care. Students receive a hands-on internship experience and are paid $17 per hour, as well as credit toward a degree in some instances.
“We saw this as an opportunity to draw individuals with a passion for providing care to our program. We want to hire and show them that though this program there is a career path for professional growth.” said Hicks. When they graduate we want them to stay in West Virginia and in some instances, we will be able to employee them.
