Kristen Tajima, R.N., B.S.N. is our Nurse Care Coordinator/Field Nurse. Having a Registered Nurse in our office is enormously helpful. Her training as a nurse enables us to better assess the needs of our clients, coach our caregiving staff and provide the Right Care to our clients in the greater San Diego area.
We’ll let Kristen explain what she does….
Kristen Tajima R.N., B.S.N.
Nurse Care Coordinator/Field Nurse
Please tell us about your background.
I started working for Right at Home as a caregiver while I was in nursing school. In 2014, after achieving my RN, I joined the office team to raise level of excellence in the work we do for our clients.
What degree do you have and where did you attend nursing school?
Bachelor of Science in Nursing from San Diego State University.
Where did you work before joining Right at Home?
I did photography jobs and babysitting before pursing my nursing degree. It wasn’t until my senior year in high school that I figured out I wanted to become a nurse. My mom raised me to always be kind and to give back to others. We would volunteer at marathons, soup kitchens, and with schools. I connected this to the medical field in hopes to continue helping others. Right at Home gave me my first position as an R.N.
What is your role at Right at Home?
I perform the first assessment for many clients, especially for those with medical conditions. Then I develop a custom care plan and guide the caregivers to ensure that they understand how they can be most effective. In-home visits are also part of my role to see how the clients are doing and to address any concern they or the caregiver may have. Care plans are edited as the care needs change. Sometimes, there are issues where it is best if I visit in person to assess the situation and provide insight on what to do next. The best part about my visits - I get to interact with our clients. I genuinely care about what they have to say and I always want to make sure they are satisfied with the services we provide. Each client has a story and it’s fascinating to hear how they became the person they are today.
What else would you like to say about being a nurse?
My job would not feel as rewarding if I didn’t have a great client population to see as well as having the support of the office team. This “thing” I call work doesn’t feel like I’m working as I love Right at Home and what they’re all about.
