Located at 114 W Magnolia Street in downtown Bellingham, the Regional Head Office provides caregivers that are trained, insured, and bonded for a variety of care-giving needs in the Northsound area (Island, San Juan, Skagit and Whatcom Counties). In addition to Northwest Washington, Right at Home has 5 other offices covering the greater Seattle and Tacoma area (Bellevue, Gig Harbor, Seattle, Snohomish County, and Tacoma).
Both Sharon and Steve come from successful careers as educators and entrepreneurs and bring a variety of experiences to the enterprise. Steve is a former corporate coach and management consultant with over 30 years of management, marketing and service delivery experience. After nearly two decades of managing consulting companies, Steve set up his own leadership consultancy in Singapore. He has sold the business in order to establish Right at Home in Northwest Washington. Steve holds a PhD in Integral Health, a Masters Degree in Economics, and a BA Degree in International Relations.
Sharon is a former elementary school teacher with over 10 years teaching experience in international schools in Singapore. She holds a Masters degree in Education from George Mason University and Bachelors in Psychology degree from Regents College.
Sharon and Steve have been personally involved in the challenges faced by supporting the independence, dignity and quality of life of their aging parents. With this experience, both felt strongly they would like to be involved with a business that would be meaningful and make a difference in people’s lives. While considering several business opportunities, they spoke with the people at Right at Home and decided that the Right At Home concept was exactly what they were looking for.
As part of a commitment to serving the senior community, Sharon completed training and certification as a Certified Senior Advisor (CSA) through the Society of Certified Senior Advisors.
Additionally, Steve offers free talks to non-profits and health service organizations on matters relating to health and wellness. Learn more and discover topics
Steve and Sharon understand the desire of seniors to remain independent in their homes. Their business goal is to offer an affordable, high-quality solution to those that need care in their home. Additionally, they want to give the family peace of mind that their loved one is being taken care of appropriately.
“Our most valuable care-giving experience has been gained through relationships with family and friends. We know first-hand how difficult it is to coordinate care for an aging parent living alone in another state or how important it is to honor the final request of a loved one to die with dignity at home. We’ve witnessed the emotional and physical toll on relatives and friends after years of caring for loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease, cancer or permanent disabilities.”
In their spare time, Steve and Sharon enjoy sailing, kayaking, and taking long nature walks in the countryside. In addition, Steve holds a private pilot’s license with a seaplane rating as well as a Scuba Instructor rating. Sharon is a quilting artisan and avid novel reader.
Whether it is for assistance after a stay in a hospital, an aging parent who needs extra help or companionship to remain in their own home; or as a respite for the spouse or family member caring for a loved one, Right at Home can help. Meet the teamOur History
During his years working as a hospital administrator, our founder Allen Hager watched many patients, especially seniors, leave the hospital and return home. But they did not necessarily return to health. Allen found that, once at home, a lot of his former patients were unable to care for themselves. He knew that with a little help, most of these people could lead healthy, happy lives in their homes. This became the idea for Right at Home.
After talking to dozens of families about the challenges they faced and what kinds of care would help, he became a certified nursing assistant to experience firsthand the needs of people who required professional assistance to continue living at home.
Today, with the help of Allen’s insights, Right at Home has grown to over 600 locations that serve tens of thousands of clients across the U.S. and around the world.
Our Mission
Put simply, our mission is to improve the quality of life for those we serve. Of course, we recognize that everyone’s idea of “quality of life” is different, which is why it’s so important to us to make you an active part of your own care plan. We want you to be in the driver’s seat regardless of any limitations or challenges you’re facing.
Most of all, we believe aging isn’t just about staying healthy, safe and independent. It’s also about living well.
