Helping Others While Having Fun!

Male Caregiver Talking with His Office Staff

"Right at Home is a really great place to work! I enjoy my job and the owners Ashley and Mark care a lot about all of us. Plus, the care team and office staff are great . . . love all you guys! I get to actually help seniors and adults with disabilities in need, all while having fun with them. Some are really stuck because they don't have any way to get out or can't afford it. It's part of my job to help them get out of their houses and see a bigger world than they normally could without me. It means so much to me!"Jesslyn, Caregiver with Right at Home

"You Are What Makes Our Mission Possible"

"Caregiver of the Year" Nomination

Right at Home's mission is "To improve the quality of life for those we serve." Each year the Franchise Home Office asks for nominations for "Caregiver of the Year" awards to be presented during Right at Home's Home Improvement National Conference in May.

This year, Right at Home Northern Kansas City nominated Leah Pease for her outstanding contribution to our care team and her commitment to living our mission each and every day.

In addition, we recognized Leah in our office with a much-earned Caregiver Spotlight, along with flowers and a framed nomination certificate.

Leah came to in-home caregiving after caring for her mom with Dementia. She developed a deep compasion for those stricken with this ailment. While providing this level of care was, and can be, extremey challenging it was also very rewarding for her. It created a realization that she wanted to provide that level of care for others and that caregiving could provide that vehicle.

Leah has been married to her husband Bob for over 20 years and together they have 3 children. One of Leah's children is on the autistic spectrum which also peaked Leah's interest in caregiving. In Leah's freetime she enjoys crocheting afghans for her grandchildren, baking, concerts, cooking (would rather cook for her clients), people watching, and animals. Leah has a soft spot for all animals. From the cute and cuddly to the slithering and scaly.

Leah, with all of the love and respect you deserve, thank you for embodying what it means to be a caregiver.

Celebrating Our Fantastic Caregivers

As part of Professional Caregivers Week, Right at Home Northern Kansas City hosted week of pies, pizzas, and donuts to show our appreciation of our Caregivers' hard work and dedication. When our caregivers came in to the office to pick up there "foodie goodie" we also gave out $25 in appreciation points for participating in the celebration of our AMAZING Caregivers.

With fun taglines like "We DONUT Know What We Would Do Without You," "You Are All That And A Slice Of PIE" and "You Have A Big PIZZA Our Heart," each day brought joy to our hearts as we saw our caregivers' smiling faces.

"Few professions are as vital and personally fulfilling as being a caregiver to seniors and adults with disabilities."

'Dementia Live' Training

As the top private home care agency in Northern Kansas City, Right at Home is committed to continuous caregiver development for our team and for other caregivers in the community. We recently spent time with caregivers honing and developing skills that help identify possible effects of dementia. To elevate care, compassion, and empathy for those with dementia, you must first gain an understanding of what dementia is and how the individual with dementia feels. The Dementia Live program provides an 'inside-out' understanding of dementia enabling participants to experience and feel what it might be like to struggle with any level of cognitive impairment. Putting yourself in their shoes while trying to function through activities of daily life can be sad and eye opening. Thank you to McCrite Plaza at Briarcliff and all of its fantastic staff for hosting this training event with us!

If you ever have chance to participate in a dementia training class...please do so! It will change your perspective on what people diagnosed with dementia go through each and every day. Dementia Live provides a tangible, real-life experience for family members and healthcare professionals who want to better understand the complexities of the disease. It teaches how to respond to the cognitive, emotional, and behavioral changes presented by individuals with dementia. Consistent with Adult Experiential Learning, participants are engaged intellectually, emotionally, socially, soulfully, and physically during the Dementia Live experience. This is a free community service program provided by Right at Home as well as routinely practiced in our Northern Kansas City office.

Thank you, to all caregivers providing loving care for those living with dementia.
