Dementia Awareness Training Video Series
Right at Home Oak Park's owner Robert Stelletello was a proud member of the Organizing Committee for the Dementia Friendly Initiative. The committee helped secure community partners like local hospitals and businesses to assist in developing and implementing plans.
Stelletello was the moderator at the Community Organizing meeting last October, and lead a panel of healthcare professionals including the head of Dementia Friendly Illinois, Dr. Raj Shah, of Rush Medical Center, that discussed and explained the benefits of receiving the designation. The committee met monthly and created a program for community education to promote awareness and then created training programs to teach individuals and businesses how to be dementia aware and to use dementia friendly practices.
We provided in-person awareness training to approximately 450 people in the police and fire departments, the library, the park district and Village staff. We also provided the immersive Dementia Live Experience to the police and fire personnel. Additionally we created training videos on general awareness and sector specific programs for local government, retail, restaurants, healthcare professionals, faith communities, library, multi family residential, schools and educators, care communities, community based social services, public safety and banks and other financial service providers. The videos were filmed at Village Hall.
Right at Home Oak Park also recently received the Dementia Friendly Community designation and we will resume in person training to businesses and faith communities once we are past the current crisis.
