Our Caregivers Are Our Biggest Asset
Ensuring that our caregivers are properly trained and prepared to work with our clients is one of our top priorities. We want our caregivers to feel empowered and confident in the cares they are providing.
Right at Home holds a license through the NE Department of Health and Human Services. If you or your loved one requires hands-on, personal cares, that level of care will be provided by a CNA- Certified Nursing Assistant.
Our Caregiver Training Process
Right at Home training begins with an in-depth orientation lasting 6 hours here in our home office. Orientation will cover policies and procedures, as well as many other topics: professionalism, communication and documentation, safety, expectations, our promise to new care staff and our promise to clients, HIPPA, Elder Abuse, and basic skills testing in our training facility. We identify caregivers who need extra skills training, such as making an occupied bed, brief changing, transfers, catheter care and more. We schedule time to work together for proper body mechanics and ultimately building confidence in new skills as well as older skills. Note: Some caregivers may not want to do hands on personal care, which is fine. Our office team appropriately matches our caregivers to our clients. We also have tenured caregivers provide hands on training with new caregivers if there is a shared client.
Continuing Educational Opportunities
Following orientation, our caregivers are required to complete 12 CEUs (continuing education units) per year through various trainings offered:
- Right at Home University- this is an online portal we use that has over 400 courses on all diagnoses and diseases, as well as safety and procedures. Our staff are welcome to use an in-office computer to complete these courses!
- In-services- we offer monthly in-services hosted by outside organizations. Some of the organizations who have hosted in-services in the past include the Alzheimer’s Association, the ALS Association, Kindred Hospice, Kindred at Home, and the Omaha Fire Department. We are always looking for organizations to come in and educate our staff!
