Parkinson’s Moving Day - Palm Beach Gardens

What is Moving Day?

Moving Day is a fundraising walk event, annually hosted by the Parkinson’s Foundation. This event is the first nationwide campaign that brings awareness of this condition on a national level and gives the chance to raise funds through fun and collective activities that unites families, friends and communities in the fight against Parkinson’s disease.

This remarkable event is a celebration of movement that emphasizes a family friendly walk course. It also combines different activities for adults and kids, such as the special Movement Pavilion with exercises like dance, yoga, Pilates, boxing and Tai Chi, all of them demonstrated to reduce and alleviate Parkinson’s symptoms. Moving day will also count with a kids area and a caregivers relaxation tent. It is basically ‘A day to move, a day to move others, a day that moves YOU!’

This year’s Moving Day

This year’s Moving Day took place last Sunday, November 10, 2019 at Florida AtlanticUniversity Stadium, in contribution to the Parkinson's Foundation South Florida Chapter. The event was a true celebration filled with joy, fun and physical activities for all familymembers of all ages and capabilities. We were able to experience and learn from a variety ofactivities and honor the significance of mobility in our lives.

Why is it important?

In The United States, someone is diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease every 9 minutes. Approximately 50,000 to 60,000 new cases of Parkinson’s are diagnosed each year, along with the other one million people who currently suffer from this chronic neurodegenerative conditions. we believe that nobody should live and deal with Parkinson’s alone. That is the main reason that motivated the Parkinson's Foundation to create a supportive community to give Parkinson’s patients, their relatives and friends the resources and information they need to maintain their physical, mental and emotional well-being.

You can join us in next year’s Moving Day, by sharing the event and bringing awareness to this important cause. You can also help us raise funds and awareness, by engaging in our annual walk as an individual walker, or inviting your family and friends to join as a team.
