Yvonne B - June Caregiver of the Month

June 2018 - Yvonne B.

We would like to announce Yvonne B. as Caregiver of the Month for June!

This last month Yvonne worked close to 25 shifts and was not late to any. She had no shift cancellations and always wears scrubs while assisting her clients. We, and Yvonne's clients, feel blessed to have Yvonne with us at Right at Home!

Congratulations Yvonne!

How long have you been a caregiver? I have been a caregiver for a little over a year and a half.

What prompted you to become a caregiver? When I emigrated to the United States from Jamaica I thought about a career change. I was uncertain about the field I wanted to enter but considered care-giving an option. Last year a series of unexpected events ensued which led me to think of what I was most passionate about during my professional career as an educator/counselor. Assisting persons to transform their lives was the most profound and cherished process in which I had the good fortune to participate. While searching the internet for information concerning the role of caregiver I discovered Right at Home and am happy to be a member of the team; to improve my skill set and to acquire new ones.

What do you like best about being a caregiver? What I enjoy best is the entire experience that each day brings. It is an opportunity to serve others with love, compassion, and care that is strengthened by trust and confidentiality. Helping my clients deal with the nuances of life and overcome challenging situations has been very rewarding. I have the responsibility to provide quality care that is conducive to the well-being of special human beings.

I appreciate the moments spent with my clients and I am inspired by the feedback I receive for a job well done. I look for opportunities to motivate, to enlighten, and to capture the spirit of optimism.

How long have you been a caregiver? I have been a caregiver for two years in California, Washington, and now Arizona.

What prompted you to become a caregiver? I answered an ad to help a blind woman and it totally filled my heart.

I have always liked helping people and knowing that I could make a difference in other’s lives and ever since I was a Medical Assistant, Nurse’s Aide and ran a Drug/Detox program I wanted to become a caregiver, all with the idea that something can be done about things in people’s lives. Contributing is what it is all about.

I worked for the telephone company in CA for many, many years and thought caregiving would be a nice change and a good way to be helpful to my neighbors and to the community.

The best part of being a caregiver is meeting people, being there for them, earning their trust and hopefully making a difference in their lives by caring for and helping them.

May 2017

Susan

Name: Susan

Hometown: Compton, CA

We would like to send a BIG CONGRATULATIONS out to Susan for making Caregiver of the Month!!! In addition to Susan attending at least one training class, picking up a last minute shift for us, ALWAYS being on time to her clients and always being dressed appropriately with name badge, she has gotten several kudos from her clients and is always positive, polite and friendly to talk to. Thank you Susan!

How long have you been a caregiver?

I have been a caregiver for approximately 10 years.

What prompted you to become a caregiver?

I made my home available to my mother, after my father had to be placed in a care facility. She lived there seven years and I don’t regret a minute of it, but it was hard watching her go downhill. Getting that experience opened the door for me to work with a woman who had been injured in a car accident and was going through rehab but needed assistance in her home. From there I decided to get certified so that I could continue to work in that field.

What do you like best about being a caregiver?

The thing I like most about being a caregiver is being able to put a smile on peoples' faces. I enjoy assisting them with things they are no longer able to do and I really love hearing stories about people’s childhood and how things were when they were growing up as well as stories from our Vets.

Caregiver Patricia

Name: Patricia

Hometown: Chicago

We feel very blessed to have such wonderful caregivers and at this time we would especially like to give a shout out to Patricia.

There were several caregivers in the running for our first caregiver of the month. What made Patricia stand out was the Lunch & Learn she attended, the SIX online classes she completed, and her dedication to her clients. Way to go Patricia! Thanks so much for the extra effort. We are glad to have you on our team.

How long have you been a caregiver?

I have been a caregiver since January 2015.

What prompted you to become a caregiver?

I have always enjoyed helping people. My Mom had dementia and could not care for herself any longer in her later years. So I took her into my home and learned how to care for her myself. After three years of caring for my Mom she passed away. The experience gave me a greater understanding of how important it is to the people who need caregivers in their life. I knew then that caregiving was my passion.

What do you like best about being a caregiver?

I like being a caregiver because I feel everyone deserves to be treated with compassion, kindness, and respect. Having a caring heart with a little light humor that can bring a smile to one of my clients absolutely makes my day. I would not trade that for anything.
