Have Fun This Fall With Your Senior
There is still time to soak up the remaining days of fall with your senior loved one this year.
Many of the colorful leaves still are clinging to the trees, and fall festivals are popping up in local towns each weekend. It is important to mark events with our seniors each year, including them in the fun that each new season brings. It brings variety to their lives, and makes them feel included. Find out how your senior wants to enjoy fall this year. There are many options out there for them, no matter their ability.
Soak It In
For many of our seniors, falls bring back the memory of new beginnings. Just the smell of the leaves and the sound of them crunching on the ground can bring them back to their days as a freshman on their college campus quad.
Get outside with them if they are able, and soak in the sounds and sites of fall. You know what they are - fall has a very distinctive feel. Go for a walk on a fall day with them. Feel the crisp air and sunshine on your cheeks. Listen for the sounds of the crunching leaves, and the birds migrating south. Take in the smells of fires and burning leaves.
Find the most scenic drive with the most beautiful colors, and whisk them away for the day. Roll down the window for a bit, and let the smell and feel of fall seep into the car. Pull over at a scenic spot, and take a short walk. Snap a photo of the day. Soak everything in before winter descends on the area.
Catch a Game
For many, fall nostalgia focuses on the big football game. Whether it’s high school, college or pro, try to take in a game with your senior if they are a football fan.
If they are able, head back to their college campus with them, and sit with the fans. Hear the roar of the stadium around you. Many colleges have special deals for alumni, and special seating. They also have access for all abilities. Find out what needs your senior will have, and help ensure they have the best spot for the game. Grab a cushion for them to sit on. Get some spirit wear and cheer your hearts out.
If an in-person game isn’t something your senior loved one is up for, host a viewing party at home. Dress in the school or pro team colors, and watch them go for first down on television. Make some snacks, and cheer on the home team together.
Find a Fest
At this time of the year, you’re sure to find fall festivals in just about every local town. If your senior is able, head to one near or far, and spend the day. Wander around the pumpkins, and pick some out that you can carve or paint together later. Select gourds and mini pumpkins to buy to make their home festive for fall.
Can you make it through the corn maze together? Give it a try, just be on the look out for stray ears of corn that might pose a falling hazard for your senior. If your senior isn’t up for staying the fall fest long, or even for going, grab some things to bring home for them. Get some apples and pumpkins that you can bake into treats like pies and breads together later. Or grab some already-made baked goods, and enjoy them together over coffee throughout the season at their home. PIck up some fresh ears of corn, and boil it together, and serve with chili while you enjoy Fall inside, from the comfort of your senior loved one’s home.
