CARES Dementia Specialist (C.D.S) Certified
Right at Home of Southern Pennsylvania is pleased to announce that their director of operations, Kristin Smith, recently passed the exam to become a CARES Dementia Specialist (C.D.S). She is 1 of 2 people in the state of Pennsylvania and 1 of about 250 people worldwide that holds this credential. Family members of clients can feel reassured that their loved one’s care is being overseen by someone who is recognized by the Alzheimer’s Association as a dementia specialist.
CARES Dementia Advanced Care Online Training Programs
Many organizations including the Alzheimer’s Association is addressing the growing national crisis of memory loss, dementia, and Alzheimer’s disease by developing the most innovative set of training products for family members and professionals available in the marketplace today.
CARES Dementia Advanced Care online training programs qualify individuals for Alzheimer's Association EssentiALZ certification. Alzheimer’s Association EssentiALZ and EssentiALZ Plus certification programs recognize an individual’s knowledge of recommended dementia-care practices.
Eligibility of Individual Who Fulfills Training Requirements
A person who fulfills the training requirements is eligible to take the EssentiALZ certification exam and become certified. Once a person has taken all of the EssentiALZ certification exams and passed successfully they are eligible to take the CARES Dementia Specialist credentialing exam.
Virtual Dementia Tour® Helps in Understanding Dementia
Right at Home of York, Hanover, Pennsylvania conducts the Virtual Dementia Tour® training for its Caregivers and the Community throughout the year. The Virtual Dementia Tour® (VDT®) helps those caring for someone with Dementia to identify with and understand his/her behavior.
What Does the Tour Consist Of?
The Virtual Dementia Tour® is a scientifically proven method designed to build sensitivity and awareness in individuals and professionals caring for those with Dementia. Created for anyone seeking to understand the physical and mental challenges that accompany Dementia, the Virtual Dementia Tour® not only benefits residential staff and homecare workers, it is a valuable experience for family caregivers, spouses and loved ones. This unique, interactive program has been proven to improve communication and care.

All Right at Home of Southern Pennsylvania's caregivers receive training prior to working with patients with dementia and Alzheimer's.
We believe that the VDT is a valuable tool for family caregivers as well. We offer this tour to caregivers, local facilities and elderly communities in an effort to promote compassion, empathy and understanding in people who work closely with Dementia.
